Pyromid® System
Products are patented. During the 23 years that Paul Hait, the original
developer and a Stanford graduated mechanical engineer, worked on
Pyromid®, there have been a total of 29 national and international
patents issued. Paul is Director of Research and Development of EcoPrime,
Inc. and is continuing to enhance the design, and is developing additional
approaches for the use of the current designs.

The Harmonic
Thermal Array:
The burning
of the natural fuel in an enclosed container has been extensively
studied by the inventor. By using an exact placement of charcoal briquettes,
the maximum efficiency of the burning of these briquettes is obtained.
This is called the Harmonic Thermal Array (HTA), and is achieved by
the SuperHeat grate of the Pyromid® stove.
The Shape:
The stoves are designed
with a pyramidal shape which lends itself to true portability, if
it is hinged, while providing a configuration that focuses the heat
for more efficient burning of natural fuel. The design takes advantage
of air flows inside the stove, and heat that radiates both up and
down. The reflective surfaces add to the effect of the Harmonic Thermal
Array, and enhance the overall efficiency of the stove's use of heat
produced by the fuel.
Stove Materials:
All Pyromid® stoves
are made from durable 430 Stainless Steel. This material allows for
quick cooling, easy maintenance, low heat transfer to the base, overall
strength, thermal durability and thermal reflectivity. High quality
stainless steel also allows for high performance and easy maintenance
even in corrosive (salt water) or other humid environments. The foil
liner is an integral part of the stove, as it allows the firebox to
be protected from the direct contact with burning fuel, keeps the
airflow within the stove completely controlled, and catches dripping
liquids and food from the grill, keeping them from burning onto the
inside of the firebox. This set-up allows the stove to continue to
deliver it's maximum efficiency over a long period of time, as the
reflective surfaces are always kept clean by the heat of the fire
burning off residue on the foil liner; the eventual replacement of
the foil liner gives a new reflective surface to the inside of the
stove.
The Heat and Reflective
Surfaces:
Pyromid® System
Products are designed to reflect heat to the cooking surface for maximum
fuel burning efficiency. By changing the orientation, height, and
the quantity of the fuel, the stove automatically provides a different
amount of heat to the grill. Each stove comes with two fuel grates
which allow the fuel placement to be adjusted, creating a choice of
low heat, medium heat and high heat. When using the stove for the
first time, a new user will find that it is necessary to adjust his
expections of the amount of heat delivered by a quantity of fuel in
the upward direction. The Pyromid® stoves will deliver up to six
times more heat to the cooking surface for a given amount of fuel
than traditional stoves. The configuration of the stove acts as a
focusing mechanism for directing the heat to the area of the grill,
unlike traditional stoves that primarily depend on convection and
radiation of heat directly from the fuel. This reflective nature of
the stove combined with the Harmonic Thermal Array allows the stove
to outperform any other natural fuel burning stove on the market.
The graph below was
made from data gathered in the Pyromid, Inc. test room in Redmond,
Oregon, using a 12" stove. Test results will vary based on the
type of charcoal briquettes used, the time the briquettes have been
out of the bag, the surrounding air temperature, and altitude. These
results do give an indication to the Pyromid® stove user of the
temperatures and times he can expect when using the stove.
